Birdlife near Margaret River @ Yelverton Brook

Splendid Blue Wren

Hi from sunny Margaret River the birdlife is in full swing with all parent being very busy feeding their young offspring.

I have even seen the beautiful Splendid Blue Wren’s with some of their young just as you see on the postcards!

What treat.

The Yellow Robins are getting very friendly and love feeding on bugs around the spa chalets, a very eco friendly pest control method.

The 28 Parrots or know as Port Lincoln’s are funny as they love to boss each other around whilst the quite ones sneak in a get a feed. The only difference between the male and female is the bright red ridge just above the males beak. In this species the female is as pretty as the male for a change.

Over 50+ species of birds have currently been recorded at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctuary, in each chalet is a Bird field guide book to help you identify the birds and hopefully record any new species.

Come and stay with us and help find & record some new species to the list. There is a list of recorded birds on our website at Yelverton Brook Birdlist

It is a really good birdwatching area with the Wonnerup Wetlands nearby which are Ramsar Listed and offer world class birdwatching here in Western Australia.

Possums love banana at Yelverton Brook

Filed under: australia, eco tourism, margaret river, possum, western australia, wildlife — jensor @ 2:58 am

Possums love eating yummy bananas that clients offer them whilst staying at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctuary.

They enjoy the special Possum pellets but prefer banana, the Kangaroos seem to love the banana skin before the actual banana but Possums love the yellow soft squishy stuff inside like us humans.

Please see some of the pictures below-

Woylies love fungi at Yelverton Brook near Margaret River

Filed under: australia — jensor @ 6:19 am

Well the evidence is clear to see, the Woylie’s favourite food is Truffles and fungi like mushrooms and toadstools are pretty close.

On walking around the 100 ac sanctuary yesterday morning with the wet, damp weather the fungi is loving this type of weather. The Woylies seem to nibble some tops, the bottom of some stalks pulling them out of the ground and laying them on their sides. Some look they must taste really good as they are heavily eaten.

Most of the fungi seen so far is closer to the creek line area, offering a damper environment. With many colours of the rainbow with pale frilly white, soft fawns, yellows, curry yellows to large puff balls…..a fantastic variety on offer for a hungry critter!

Check out our Photo Gallery on Fungi found at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat.

Joy learnt about these fascinating plants whilst learning to be a Kings Park Guide many years ago. They had a great speaker who shared his passion about these unique flora.

Flutes Restaurant near Margaret River by Yelverton Brook

A short time ago we took mother out for a drive to their old farm in Willyabrup which now is the home of Flutes Restaurant and Brookland Valley Vineyard.

The cafe/restaurant is situated over looking the Willyabrup River and a large dam come lake on it. Have a look at the pics below.

Offering beautiful gardens, great food, notice the Peter Pan in the family picture on the right hand side. A popular place for special events, birthdays and weddings.

When the Ensor’s owned it was a 1,000 ac farm stretching from Caves Road to the coast. A most beautiful place with an 80′ gorge country section along the river cutting through granite. They put the local Marron into the lake which grow to a fair size in this large body of water.

Even a great quick stop for a wine tasting or afternoon tea, the Devonshire tea is great.

Imagine the Ensor kids swimming in the dam, surfing the dam using the old beetle (car) with a very long rope………or being towed around by their farm dog who enjoyed a swim in the dam.

Definitely worth a visit whilst staying at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctuary near Margaret River in Western Australia. A most beautiful region for fine wine and dining options.
