It’s finally raining at Yelverton Brook….winter has arrived at last

Quenda or Southern Brown BandicootHi well it’s now June 26th and finally we are getting some good winter rains at last.

The only problem is we have only just finished replacing our old steel culverts in our creek line with concrete pipes due to mechanical breakdowns……!

To keep cars off it until it can dry out a little we have a diversion in place and to access the office guests will need to use the Irvine Road entrance, luckily we have several access points onto the local roadways. So if you see a sign just follow the directions…..

The frogs are really croaking now, you forget their loverly sounds over the summer. We are hoping to get a survey done on the frog population at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctuary this year.

So if you know anyone please call us on 0897 557579 or email retreat@yelvertonbrook.com.au

The Woylies are doing really well and the Bandicoots are expanding their home range as well. Seeing diggings around the chalets and clients are beginning to see them as well after several years. Shows how much damage a fox can do!

Woylies & Yelverton Brook in Margaret River

The Woylie population at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctuary increased again with another junior Woylie joining us here in the Margaret River region today from a fauna carer Leslie from Northcliffe delivering a young Woylie here today.

Woylies at Yelverton Brook

It is enjoying more space & freedom in a breeding pen until it adjusts to it’s new home and

surroundings and smells. It is sharing it’s pen with Blindy a female who has impaired sight and cannot be released in to the 100ac protected Conservation Sanctuary.

So she will enjoy the company for awhile.

See the pic below of the last kids to join us here at Yelverton Brook.

Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat + Conservation Sanctuary – WA

Established in 1991 the 40 ha eco-retreat in the heart of the Margaret River Wine region of Western Australia features self contained eco-chalets nestled among native bushland and tall timbers, built by hand using sustainability principles. The husband and wife team have been able to focus on protecting the wildlife and have ventured into breeding endangered native wildlife whilst eradicating all the ferals (cats, foxes and rabbits). In late March 2007 the last fox was eradicated and two weeks later the Woylies (Brushtailed Bettongs) which is an endangered species was released into the hundred acre sanctuary.

The production of information as E-books, a BLOG specialising in wildlife happenings and an online shop with proceeds going towards the conservation work, Joy and Simon Ensor are able to share their knowledge and experience with others.

Albert is enjoying his new home @ Yelverton Brook

Albert a male western ring tailed possum at Yelverton BrookAlbert the male Western Ringtailed Possum has settled in well at Yelverton Brook, he has set up home in a large jarrah tree with a great hollow for a sheltered home.

We have been tracking him as he is sporting a radio tracking collar due to his medical condition of previously having a very large Bladder stone of 16mm which when you are only 980gms that is huge. Pics can be seen at http://www.yelvertonbrook.com.au/western-ringtailed-possum.aspx

and pics of Albert as well.

He was seen in the company of Mobi a female Western Ringtailed Possum who was released in the same area as Albert in the hope they would pair up! Which proved correct tonight as they were seen in a Banksia tree together not far from Albert’s new pad.
