Bandicoots feeding at Yelverton Brook near Margaret River in WA

Filed under: australia — jensor @ 6:25 am

Southern Brown Bandicoot feeding at our back door, they love nuts, meat, beetles, worms, well almost anything…..
The females have a rear facing pouch so they do not fill up the babies in the pouch with dirt when they are digging, which they do very well.
They can have multiple babies up to 6 and leave the pouch when approx. a mouse size so by then mums belly is on the ground!
The kids to get in & out of the pouch before leaving her for good.
Why not stay and see them for yourself here @ Yelverton Brook?

A holiday with a conservation flavor – feel good about your choice and help support a family run tourism business that puts back into native wildlife conservation in a real way and you get to enjoy seeing & meeting the increasing friendly wildlife.

Woylies seen every night right on our back doorstep here at Yelverton Brook, guests staying in our spa chalets see them almost as often as they are breeding well here @ Yelverton Brook.
All self funded conservation work through our tourism accommodation, being only a family of 3 a real labour of love.
So a really good reason to come and stay & experience the magic here and help Australian wildlife conservation in a real way.
Currently we have 3 x endangered native species living safely here. 50+ species of birds sighted so far as well.

The wonder child that breed well enough with good management plans emerged off the Endangered native species list a short time ago.
But a few days ago the Hon Peter Garrett Australia’s federal Environment Minister announcing the Woylies going back onto the National Threatened Species list again plus the Redtailed Cockatoo listed as Vunerable species.

Here at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctaury we have been successfully breeding the Woylies for approx. 4+ yrs now and protected by a predator proof fence are breeding very well with approx. 30+ Woylies enjoying life here and new bulging pouches for this winter season. Another 3 Woylies joined us here from a local Fauna carer from Northcliffe that had been hand raised as orphans.
They have settled in well and enjoying the freedom within the 100acs.

Protecting our natives from feral predators

Son helped yesterday doing a concrete plinth under the delivery gate so feral animals cannot dig under the gravel that was below the gate. he’s done a great job, finished it late yesterday in the rain on dark. Covered with plastic to protect it from the rain. Extra strengthing put into it to carry the weight of trucks that use that entrance.
The solar panel for the front electric gate seems to working well so far this winter!
Just pebbles that can catch the rollers can stop the gate from working, needs checking each night to ensure the security of our wonderful native fauna.

If you want to see an amazing use of wine glasses you can see this amazing chandelier @ Lawrence Estate Winery near Yelverton Brook in their foyer between the tasting room and toilets.

It is quite an amazing work of art as the whole property is as well.
Fantastic rose gardens, “chick on the stick” in the lake as the locals know the statue in the lake.
A lovely place to visit whilst enjoying sampling a few wines in this famous wine region of Margaret River.

What is the Kangaroos new tasty treat?

A customer made a very interesting observation from their private spa chalet here at Yelverton Brook Eco Spa Retreat & Conservation Sanctuary………
A Kangaroo checked out the gas bbq when it was not being used and managed to get the small container that catches the fat from underneath the hotplate and proceeded to eat & lick it clean!

Never heard of this before by a Kangaroo, knew Possums liked to sample the tasty fat residues!

We are always learning about our wildlife & their funny habits.
See a great pic from a customer taken on Australia Day!
